Hi everyone,
ShootingStar Psychology & Psychotherapy was founded as an extension to my work in medical settings and private clinics. I support patients and clients in building their resilience, living with purpose, creating healthy lifestyles and healing psychological wounds.
One day talking at the dinner table about behaviour change, challenges and barriers that most of us face to achieve a fulfilled life, my daughter, in a quite serious way, said to me:
Mom, don’t you know!? If you have a wish, you need to wish upon a shooting star!
I thought about the beauty of this image, it also brought me back to my childhood. I one day wished upon a shooting star. As we age, and are impacted by ‘should’ and ‘must’ thoughts. We lose our contact with the things that make us smile, happy and playful. As we deliver our duties to everyone else, riddled by stress, depression and anxiety we have little time to ourselves. I decided to establish, ShootingStar, so you can have a place to make a wish, reconnect to your values and purpose. You can achieve this through psychological and psychotherapeutic work, finding fulfilment, physical & mental health.
About Me:
I am a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland, The British Psychological Society and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy. I have six years of training in Psychology at Trinity College Dublin, School of Psychology, and at the Department of Psychology in the Mater University Hospital. I also trained as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist at the School of Psychotherapy at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. I currently work at Vhi Health and Wellbeing as Integrative Health Specialist and Health Coach. Over the years I have gathered personal experience and professional skills that can help you to transform your suffering into inner wisdom and guiding energy towards healing. I work with different therapeutic modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am also a trained Lacanian Psychoanalyst.
Approach:
I am a person-centred psychotherapist and psychologist. My main objective when I am working with you is to understand your suffering from your point of view. I believe that each of us is unique and we carry the ability to either damage or to heal ourselves.
My work and my skills will support you in paving the path to unlock that which heals and can only be found within each one of us, in a very individual and particular way.
I define my work as Integrative. This expresses my belief that mind and body are connected and are in constant dialogue. If one neglects the body the mind will suffer and vice versa. For example, if you are not sleeping well, not eating well, drinking too much, or not moving enough, these factors will weigh on your mental health. They will negatively impact how you handle your stress and whether you feel strong enough to tackle the challenges you face. It is also true, that if your self-esteem and confidence are low and you feel hopeless. These factors will have an impact on your capacity to look after your physical health. My main aim is to empower you by developing your self-efficacy, resilience, and coping skills, to improve your mental health and physical health.
